Sharon Hudson Rattray, Pianist
An accomplished and versatile musician, Sharon Hudson Rattray, is in constant demand as a performer, accompanist and organist. Mrs. Rattray received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from USC, where she received the prestigious Most Outstanding Senior Award. Mrs. Rattray continued her training as a chamber musician in Munich where she attended the Institute of Chamber Music. In 1991, she was selected to represent USC in a chamber music concert at the Lincoln Center for the Mozart Bicentennial Celebration. From 1988 to 1993, Sharon was a member of the Columbia College staff as instructor in the pre-college music program. Mrs. Rattray has performed as a soloist with both the USC Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic.
Currently, she serves as staff accompanist at the USC School of Music, accompanist for the Lexington County Choral Society, and organist at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Along with her sister, Allison Hudson Hilbish, Sharon frequently performs sacred piano/organ duo concerts. She resides in the Midlands with her husband, Marc, and her two sons, Truman and Matthew.
Grayson Sarvis, Assistant Conductor
Grayson Sarvis earned a Masters of Education Degree from Cambridge College, a Masters of Education in Secondary Administration and a Bachelors of Arts in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. After twenty-eight years in public education she retired from Brookland-Cayce High School as the Administrative Assistant, Fine Arts Department Chairman, and Choral Director. While at BCHS Grayson was chosen by her colleagues as 1993-94 Teacher of the Year, served on its Foundation Board for three years, produced eight major Broadway musicals and reviews, produced two Madrigal Dinner Theatre programs, organized several variety/talent shows, hosted four joint concerts with her rival high school encouraging positive school relations, and prepared her choruses to perform in four different LCCS concerts. Her choruses regularly scored Superior ratings in sight singing and in performances at local, state, regional, and national choral festivals. Her students were chosen consistently as members of the SC All State Choruses, as recipients of the H. T. Lorick, Jr. Vocal Scholarship and as recipients of various college vocal scholarships. In February 2014, Grayson was inducted into the Brookland-Cayce High School Educator Hall of Fame.
Outside of her school work, Grayson also served as Coordinator of the SC All State Chorus for eight consecutive years, the Music Coordinator and Vocal Ensemble Instructor for the Tri-District Arts Consortium for ten years, and as a member of several Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Evaluation Teams. She presented workshops for colleagues on sight-reading, Kodaly techniques, and appropriate choral repertoire for high school singers. Grayson has also tutored high school students in AP Music Theory to better prepare them for entrance into college music programs, as well as, accompanied the River Bluff High School Chorus for four years.
Currently, Grayson serves as the Assistant Director of the Lexington County Choral Society and Owner/Instructor of Sarvis Music Studios in Gilbert. Professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), SC Music Educators Association (SCMEA) and a lifetime member of the Palmetto State Teachers Association (PSTA). In her retirement, Grayson has filled two long-term substitute teacher positions for White Knoll High School and River Bluff High School and currently enjoys her three grandchildren.
